Autumn Bucket List

After a long summer, spent wearing sandals, fluttering dresses and eating ice-creams and juicy fruits, I’m ridiculously excited about the recent arrival of autumn, which is absolutely my favorite season.
Nights are getting darker and you can spot the morning’s frost in the fields, meaning that is finally time to wear cosy sweaters, colorful tights and scarves and enjoy the warm embrace of a woolen blanket.
There are always many lovely things that I want to do in this amazing time of the year so, inspired by a video of my favorite BookTuber Lauren from "Lauren and the Books", I decided to write my own autumn bucket list, and try my best to tick the most of the things during the months to come.

  1. Take a walk and crunch the leaves.
  2. Read a thriller and a ghost story.
  3. Have a movie day under the duvet.
  4. Try a new pumpkin recipe.
  5. Visit a fall festival.
  6. Wear thick fluffy socks.
  7. Join a book club.
  8. Enjoy a foggy morning walk.
  9. Burn some new candles.
  10. Bake an apple cake.
  11. Explore the woods in their autumnal glory and pick up chestnuts.
  12. Wear my favorite sweater to stay warm.
  13. Decorate the house with pine cones, chestnuts and beautiful leaves.
  14. Drink warm apple juice.
  15. Spend an afternoon curled up under a blanket, with a good book and an hot chocolate.
  16. Snuggle into a cozy scarf.
  17. Make a “London fog" latte.
  18. Take my own fall pictures.
  19. Make soups.
  20. Unwind with a relaxing day at the SPA.
  21. Wear my pairs of brogues.
  22. Make cinnamon rolls.
  23. Wear dark lipsticks.
  24. Make homemade granola with chocolate and hazelnut.
  25. Go to the theatre.

Autumnal Little Pleasures

Hello my sweet ladies!!!I’m so glad to be back after such a long time!
During the past months life has been a rollercoaster, with many ups and downs, joys and tears, and I really needed to come back to this little safe corner, doing something that makes me happy.
So let’s skip to the beautiful things of the last few weeks, with a cup of tea and some chocolate biscuits to keep me company:

1. The little drop in the temperatures, which means many more cups of tea and nights spent curled up on the sofa, under my soft woolly blanket! Summer has been unbearably hot this year in Italy, a nightmare for an autumn lover like me, so I couldn’t be happier to start wearing scarves and colorful tights and enjoy the brisk air of the early morning walks to work.

2. Call The Midwife: one Saturday I was wandering around in a wonderful bookshop when a little book caught my attention : “ Call The Midwife” by Jennifer Worth, which is the autobiography of the author, who worked as a midwife in the East London in the 1950. I didn’t buy the book that day but, some days later, I mentioned it to my friends and I discovered that there was the series on Netflix! As you can guess I was thrilled about it, and I was right because I was completely hooked to the series since the first episode!!!
The main character is adorable, a strong woman, independent, self-confident, but also sweet and charming, and I love the setting, which is realistic and fascinating. I’m sure I’m going to finish it in a flash!

3. The Essex Serpent by Sarah Perry, a wonderful work of historical fiction that explores the gap between science and superstition, friendship and romantic love. I had heard many positive comments about this book before reading it and they were absolutely true. However, I must confess, I couldn’t empathize so much with Cora Saeborne, the main character, even if she is an unforgettable heroine, witty, independent and fiercely intelligent.

4. Bristol! Sentimentally speaking the first weeks of September have been quite hard, so I thought the best solution was to take a break from the routine and go away for some days. My cousin was leaving for Bristol for her Erasmus and I decided to go with her, to spend some days in England together, as we used to do when we were kids and our families went on holidays together! We had an amazing time there, with sunny days, a lovely Victorian house to stay in, and many delicious meals. Oh..and I did some shopping too: candles, second-hand books, a new pair of comfy slippers and some delicious herbal teas! Bristol was a balm for my soul and it brought me luck because, once home, little by little, things started to get better!

5. An afternoon to the Botanic Garden. One Sunday I went with my girls on a daytrip to Padova, a city not so far from where I live, easily reached by train. After a morning of shopping, where I bought the most wonderful pair of embroidered jeans and the cutest dress, we decided to visit the Botanic Garden, which was founded in 1545 and it’s the world’s oldest academic botanical garden that is still in its original location.  We wandered around for hours, chatting, laughing and taking pictures…It was truly amazing to be surrounded by all those plants and gorgeous flowers from all around the world.

6. My new leather backpack. “Patience is a virtue” they say..and they are right! After months and months of wishing a backpack, looking for the right one and not finding it anywhere ( I wanted a Kanken at the beginning but it was pricey and I wasn’t fully convinced) last weekend I found THE ONE in Florence! It’s black leather with golden hinges and a big pocket on the front and, moreover, it’s the perfect size to be useful for work, but not too big to look like a schoolbag! I’m in love with it and I’m glad that I waited so long!

Seriously if anyone is still reading my blog after such a long time I thank you from the bottom of my heart..it means the world to me!!! Have a lovely weekend and see you soon!!!

Because Fall Rhymes With Pumpkin...

One of the reasons why I love the fall season, with its magic atmosphere, the feeling of peace that is brought by its colours, the rustle of the fallen leaves and even, perhaps, the first sprinkles, is the pumpkin! Plain and simple!
So, to celebrate my passion for this orange gift of nature I've decided to share with you one of my favourite recipes:
Pumpkin muffins with chocolate chips
...a little treat, delicious and satisfying.

INGREDIENTS

250 gr. of steamed pumpkin flesh | 250 gr. of flour | 150 gr. of brown sugar | 150 gr. of margarine | cinnamon, cloves, and ginger powder | 1 egg | 1 teaspoon of baking powder | 1 pinch of salt | 100 gr. of chocolate chips

PROCEDURE
In a bowl, whisk the eggs with the sugar, add the cold melted butter, the pumpkin (mashed with a fork) and the spices.
Mix well and add the sifted flour with the baking powder and a pinch of salt.
Add the chocolate chips (dusted with flour) and pour the mixture into the muffins molds.
Bake in preheated oven at 180 ° C for about 30-35 minutes.
Sprinkle with icing sugar to taste.

The last time I prepared these muffins I was still in Dublin, in the tiny but cozy flat in the south of the city, so they will always bring with them all of the sweetest irish memories...one for each bite!

Lots of love

A Simple Sunday Afternoon

Happy Sunday evening lovelies!!!
Today has been a wet and chilly day, so I've decided to spend the last day of November in the most relaxing way: under a soft woolly blanket, reading " The night before Christmas", the book, written by Scarlett Bailey, I bought this morning for my brand new kindle, eating shortbreads in the shape of squirrel and drinking many cups of the delicious Taylor's of Harrogate Spiced Apple tea.
I've really loved it from the first sip:  fruity apple pieces that meet the aromatic star anise, the punchy ginger root and the warming sweetness of cardamom and cinnamon!!
The house smelled of baking spices thanks to one of my favourite Yankee Candles "Home Sweet Home" and, after a busy week and a funny night out with friends, it has been wonderful to enjoy my day off all wrapped up in my soft nightgown, watching the rain drenching the countryside...

How did you spend your Sunday? Are you already in the Christmas spirit?
Lots of Love

Fall Favourites / Tag

Autumn has always been my favourite season. I love its colors, the shades of yellow, orange, red and brown of the countryside, the early morning frosts, the cups of chocolate sipped in the evening curled up under a woolly blanket, chestnuts and obviously apples, enjoyed in many ways ( apple pies, baked apples, cider and so on).

I saw this nice tag on "Kim Jade Louise" and it was lovely to read it, so in this post I want to share some of my favourite things about fall.

Tea?
I'm an inveterate tea drinker and one of my favourites is " Earl Grey", especially in the afternoon with some biscuits or a slice of homemade cake, but since I came back from Yorkshire last month I can't stop drinking the delicious Taylor's of Harrogate Lemongrass and Ginger tea, a fragrant zing of lemongrass, blended with the warmth of spicy ginger root.

Coffee?
I really need a cup of coffee to start the day and my favourite is Costa's American decaf with brown sugar. Lately, however, I also love drinking a cup of hot barley coffee with a teaspoon of acacia's honey.

Candy or Cookies?
Cookies, sure as hell!!! Baking cookies is one of my favourite winter hobbies and I really like to enjoy them soaked in tea or hot chocolate in front of a good movie.

Dinner?
I go crazy for pumpkin, so a Creamy pumpkin's soup, perfect to warm up after a wet autumn day, is the answer.

Scarf?
A tartan scarf I bought last year in Florence, which I really love because it's soft and warm and it matches perfectly with all my coats.

Coat?
A dark green duffle coat that my mother bought me for my graduation day some years ago from United Colors of Benetton. It's perfect with every outfit, especially with dresses and skirts , and it makes me feel beautiful.

Shoes?
My brown leather ankle boots..They keep my feet dry and warm and I've never worn anything more comfortable!!!

Scented Candle?
I rediscovered my passion for candles last year and now it has became a ritual for me to light up a scented candles as soon as darkness falls. Lately my favourite is " Warm Spice Yankee Candle", deliciously indulgent and creamy, a classic blend of vanilla, brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg.

Activity?
Reading, listening "Enya", watching movies, walking in the wood, baking cakes and biscuits, taking pictures, preparing soups and picking up chestnuts.

I've loved to do this tag and I hope you liked it! It would be amazing to know your answers..so I TAG YOU!!!
Love
