" You know what I love about cooking?...I love that after a day when nothing is sure, and when I say 'nothing' I mean nothing!, you can come home and absolutely know that If you add eggs yolks to chocolate and sugar and milk, it will get thick. It's such a comfort!".
From " Julie & Julia"
This
week I've spent most of the time at home because of the torrential
rain!!! I've finished to read a book and I have started another, "How to
be a woman", by Caitlin Moran. I bought it two years ago in a bookshop
in London because I was attracted by the cover, then I put it aside and
now that I'm reading it I think it is very very funny!!!:)
Have you read it?
I've also spent time in the kitchen , preparing one of my favourite cake: the Strudel. I've used the recipe of my great grandmother, who had Austrian origins, and it has been really delicious!!!
RECIPE
Ingredients:
350gr of flour
a pinch of salt
1/2 glass of warm water
100 gr of margarine
1 egg
2 spoons of sugar
8 or 10 apples
cinnamon
raisins
pine nuts
almonds
Put in a bowl : sugar, one egg, margarine, flour, salt and add half glass of warm water.
Knead the dough and roll it out very thin. Peel the apples, cut into slices and place in a bowl with a few drops of lemon.
Add to the dough the slices of apple, sprinkle it with sugar and cinnamon, and add raisins, pine nuts and almonds.

Roll up the dough and place it in a buttered baking dish, then add some sugar on the surface.
Bake in the oven at 180 degrees for an hour.
Enjoy it with a cup of "Earl Grey" tea!!!
What have been your tiny beautiful things of this week?
